Above: Old postcards of the valley regularly appear on ebay.

There’s an amazing number of old postcards showing views of the Goyt Valley. In the days before smart phones and social media, they were a perfect way of keeping in touch with friends and family. Letting them know where you were with a photo and a short note.

Buxton and the Peak District were very popular destinations for both family holidays and day-trippers. And local shops would have done a roaring trade in postcards showing nearby scenic spots. The picturesque Goyt Valley would have been an ideal place for photographers to capture such views.

Old postcard views of the valley pop up on ebay all the time. I’ve been posting them on the Goyt Valley Facebook page. But I thought it might be an idea to also create a gallery of the images on this website. And add new ones as they appear.
