Length: 1.6mls | Av. time: 45mins
Start: The Street lay-by

This short circular walk is perfect for anyone who wants a quick leg-stretch and prefers getting away from the more popular paths around the twin reservoirs.

There are some wonderfully panoramic views across the surrounding Peak District countryside from Foxlow Edge, with the added bonus of a visit to the evocative circular stone building known as St Joseph’s Shrine (below).

The shrine is a beautifully peaceful spot to rest awhile. A small plaque inside displays the initials D de Y and the date 1889, in memory of Dolores de Ybarguen, the Spanish companion of Jessie, the matriarch of the Grimshawe family from Errwood Hall.

The walk can be easily extended by visiting the ruins of hall from 10 on the map (see orange dashes) and even taking in the hill-top graveyard of the Grimshawe family from the hall.
