Goyt Valley industries
It’s hard to picture now, but the peaceful Goyt Valley was once a working landscape. Coal was mined on Goyt’s Moss, stone quarried at Goytsclough and Issue Tor, and a waterwheel powered the paint mill at Goytsclough. Wagons on the Cromford & High Peak Railway were hauled up the steep inclines, and gunpowder was made at Fernilee. These posts tell their stories.

Castedge Coal Mine
Old OS maps show a ‘Coal Pit’ between Errwood Hall and Castedge Farmhouse. The entrance to the mine has long since been blocked and is now covered by thick undergrowth.
