Length: 9.4mls | Av. time: 4.30hrs
Start: Smithy Ln., Rainow
At just under 10 miles, this is one of the longest walks in the Goyt Valley series. It’s also not strictly in the valley, although it’s not that far away; lying below the The Tors ridge line between Pym Chair and Shining Tor.
The walk starts from behind the Robin Hood pub in Rainow, heading first for the evocative ruins of Thursbitch (featured in a popular book by renowned local author, Alan Garner).
It then crosses farmland and moorland to reach Lamaload Reservoir, which is a perfect half-way stop to rest awhile. The Robin Hood pub, with its large outdoor seating area, is an ideal spot to take refreshments at the end of the walk.
A detailed, step-by-step description and map of this walk are available to download for just £1.85. A walking app GPX file is also available at £1.50. Save on both for just £2.95. All proceeds help cover the hosting costs of this website.
